Sixen in Slack

Ask Sixen about the people you work with, right where you talk to them. Everything Sixen does in Slack is private: only you see its answers, and it never posts anything.

Slack is part of Sixen Plus and Premium.

1. Connect your account

First, add Sixen to your workspace. In Sixen, go to Settings › Slack and choose Add to Slack. Slack may ask a workspace admin to approve. If Sixen is already in your workspace, skip this.

  1. In Sixen, go to Settings › Slack and choose Connect Slack.
  2. Sixen gives you a short code. Copy the command it shows, /sixen link followed by the code, paste it into any message box in Slack, and send it.
  3. Sixen replies only to you. Press Confirm.

The code works once, for 10 minutes. Type it yourself and never share it.

To disconnect, type /sixen unlink in Slack, or in Settings › Slack choose Manage, then Unlink it.

2. /sixen: ask about people

TypeYou get
/sixen Dana or /sixen @DanaYour read on Dana: how Dana tends to communicate, how to approach Dana, and what to do and avoid.
/sixen Dana and SamReads on both.
/sixenA few lines on the people in this conversation.
/sixen how do I open the review? The same, focused on your question.
/sixen helpA short list of everything here.
  • A read on one person works anywhere, including your DM with Sixen.
  • /sixen about a conversation reads that conversation, so connect Slack history first, in Settings › Slack. Sixen reads it only for your answer and keeps only what it learns about people, never their words.
  • Slack doesn't allow app commands inside threads. Use /sixen in the channel or DM itself.

3. How should I reply?

On any message, open its menu (⋯ More actions) and choose How should I reply? Sixen gives you a few private lines on what the people in that thread seem to need, and a way to reply.

If Sixen isn't in that channel yet, it asks you to add it with /invite @sixen.

4. @Sixen and your DM with Sixen

  • Mention @Sixen in a channel with a name or a question, and Sixen answers you privately. Your mention itself is a normal message that everyone in the channel can see. If you want your question to stay private too, use /sixen.
  • Message Sixen directly in its DM (under Apps in Slack) with a person's name to get your read on that person, or with help.
  • Linking and unlinking work only with /sixen link and /sixen unlink, never in a mention, so a code is never shown in a channel.
  • The Home tab of the Sixen app shows whether your account is connected.

5. Follow mode (Premium)

Sixen can keep your people up to date by reading the Slack conversations you choose, a few times a day.

  1. In Sixen, go to Settings › Slack › Follow and people.
  2. Choose Connect Slack history. Slack shows you exactly what you're allowing.
  3. Pick Chosen conversations or All my conversations, or Off.

Following never posts anything. Sixen keeps only what it learns about people, never their messages. To leave someone out, add them under Exclude people, or turn on Don't follow in Slack on their page in People.

Privacy, in short

  • Only you see Sixen's answers in Slack.
  • Sixen never posts in Slack.
  • No one else can see your reads.
  • Delete everything from Slack in Settings › Slack removes what Sixen learned there. Full details are in the privacy policy.
  • Sixen's reads can be wrong. Check before you act, and correct any read with Is this right? on that person's page.
